Ultimate performance Special Edition Discrete Audio Dual OP-AMP's for upgrading any existing Audio product. This module is a simple and effective way to upgrade your CD, DVD or Blu-Ray player, or preamplifier, or network stream player by removing the existing OPAMP IC's and dropping these into the motherboard. This way any Audio equipment can upgrade to a true Discrete High End Analog stage with outstanding performance. It will drop directly into DIP8 single footprints in a CD, DVD, Preamp or soundcard.
This Discrete OPAMP based on brand new technology, with a folded cascode which eliminates semiconductor capacitances, and provides world class sound performance in your existing product. Compared to other similar products this module is made with high end thin film resistors, and a special high-speed circuit with extremely low THD (0.0003%). Current mirrors are made with lowest noise LED references. Resulting in a clean and coherent sound experience, with complete 'black background'. This Special Edition of the Discrete OPAMP has a higher Class A point, and therefore uses more power. The upside is it's 3 times faster, and has slightly improved resolution. It can however only be used in equipment with sufficient ventilation, to dispence of the excess heat dissipation.
Discrete High End Sound Quality
Most signal sources, and many power amplifiers use operational amplifiers, as main active component, for amplifying, filtering and impedance conditioning of the audio signal. This means the audio properties of these OPAMPs have a big impact on the sound of your audio equipment. Even OPAMP's with good data, like very low THD specification still have very different sonic properties. This tells us that technical spec is not the whole story and defining factor for sound quality.
Classically there has been a few IC OPAMP's considered good for Audio, and with golden sound performance. But today it is in debate if even these sometimes very expensive chips are really capable of getting the best sound out of your CD player, DVD player, preamplifier or power amplifier. And when you add the fact that most commercial audio players use cheap
| |
OPAMP's and not the classical 'golden' OPAMP's that would cost hundreds of times more, there is place for improvement.
This discrete OPAMP is based on a novel 12 transistor circuit with very high linearity. Therefore low open loop amplification is possible, leading to natural, relaxed sound with a very high detail and perfect tonal balance. The circuit implies current mirrors, which are here implemented with ulra low noise green LED's. This gives the amplifier very good low noise performance.
The input stage is bipolar unlike some other discrete OPAMP's available on the market. This gives our module the best possible stability under all real-life uses, and also protects it better against static electricity. Bipolar transistors also tend to sound cleaner and more dynamic than FET's in the input stage.
|
This module is also available in a standard version with lower power consumption, See HERE...
With a reference Clock and a couple of voltage regulators this is the cheapest way to achieve true high-end sound performance, even from mid range audio equipment.

In this SONY player the modules simply drop in, the
upgrade takes only 15 minutes, and gives a dramatic
improvement in resolution and clarity, even if it's
only a midrange CD player.
Circuit stability.
This OPAMP is stable even with very poor decoupling. However should you wish to add local decoupling caps, you can place them under the motherboard. We recommend 0.33uF Mylar types, like This one.. One from pin 8 to the nearest GND and another one from pin 4 to the nearest GND.
The OPAMP is unity gain stable.
DC stability.
In general discrete OPAMPs are less DC stable than it's IC counterparts, because the transistors are not placed on the same silicon chip. So the separate transistors may get slightly cooled or heated, causing DC to fluctuate or drift a little. There fore we do recommend using either DC servo or coupling capacitor after the discrete OPAMP. The latter is recommended as the less intrusive, and if selected carefully, will have no impact on the sound quiality.
Orientation of the opamp.
Click! | Each discrete module has a small arc, indicating the position of pin 1 and pin 8 on the socket. |
Click! | This arc must align with the footprint on the motherboard, for correct orientation. If you do it wrong the module will be damaged, so check it before final installation. |
Click on the chip name, for the Datasheet This is the DUAL version.
The version refers more to the pin configuration than the electric circuit, as the DX Discrete OPAMP will be a drop-in upgrade for any standard OPAMP, with the same pin configuration, as long as it is an audio equipment. Drop-In means, that you can simply
| |
remove the old OPAMP, and then solder the DX into the same footprint on the mother board. If your particular OPAMP is not listed, it does not mean, that the DX Discrete opamp will not be compatible, only that we could not list every available opamp.

I used your dual discrete opamp in a DIY DAC project (CS8416 + AK4396) instead of the OPA627 or OPA827 originally suited for the audio output. Your discrete OPA is capable to give the true analog sound without any harshness. I was skeptical at first because couldn't find any detailed data sheet, but I have to trust my ears. My new DAC have the best sound ever. The timbre of violins, guitars and other instruments is pure true. Clarity, cleanness, separation, detail and no more hurting-ears highs. Hello I was wondering if your DUAL OP amp is used for sound card ESI 7.1 HIFI? thank you for your answer

In addition to my former review...the Dexa opamps are now running for more then 3 weeks now. I'm still very impressed with them! They are run-in very well now and after 150 hours I can say they need a long time to run-in before the opamps reveal an even better balanced sound with greater details, depth and pinpoint of the instruments. Great upgrade. Again thanks, Richard from the Netherlands

I'm using 2 single discrete opamp's for several days now in the lite DAC AH. The most noticeable change is the clarity in the music and large improvements in tonal balance. It's like a veil is lifted from the speakers and especially acoustic instruments like piano, guitar, percussion & vocals really benefit from the Dexa opamp. It sounds so much more natural. There no more hissing and slissing in vocals and vocals are much clearer. A really great and simple upgrade in the DAC! Thanks, Richard from the Netherlands.

Yesterday I substituted OPA627 opamp with this discreet module in my DYI DAC. I must say that I am amazed by the sound. This is definetely worth it. The most noticeable change is on vocals, guitar and piano. Even though OPA627 is a good opamp it juat can't compete with this module. Keep up good work, guys! I will be exploring all the other products that you offer. Regards. Vladimir

Hej!

I am considering the use of your discrete opamps in an Eastern Electric Minimax DAC Plus. The compact size and minimal current supply requirements are what attracted me to your opamps over others such as Burson and Audio gD. Do you have any experience or feedback from users when using your opamps in the EE DAC or other similar DACs. The EE DAC would need 2 singles and 2 duals to replace NE5534s and NE5532s. In the EE DAC all the opamps are socketed. Do you have any other suggestions re upgrading the DAC. Cheers. Garry

Hi i use single discrete opamp as current to voltage converter in my ezdac you are right it has a very natural sound. I use ad8610 before it has a more hard sound. i use charcroft around the discrete opamp, a very expensive resistor but the best you can get for money. i use pardo regulators, sorry Lars.for the moment i feed the opamp with +- 12,5 volt, later it will be +- 24 volt it will give better headroom, so it can handle powerfull signals. It is the best thing you can do for money in my opinion buy Dexa disrete opamp and forget the ic opamps....

I just upgraded my Audio Alchemy DAC in the box with a NewClassD audio Opamp and a UWB Regulator. I don't trust that this simple upgrade brings a such imrovement. The sound is absolutely more natural, the bass more deep and more fast but the best results are in the presence and clarity. In particular the acoustic instruments are fantastic and very real. I really recommend this simple but effective upgrade. Very compliments. Carlo Marchini, Siena, Italia.

Lars, Stockholm I have earlier upgraded my Yamaha CDX993 with the D-clock, which was a great improvement, see my feedback on the D-clock. The discrete op-amps give a further improvement. The music is delivered with a fantastic clarity and detail. I am very satisfied with this upgrade. / Lars, Stockholm
